Webster Co. feature twirler set to join Marshall’s majorette line
Securing a spot on Marshall’s majorette line and a tuition waiver through their band, Webster County native Lita Lewis is on her way to Marshall University this fall. Lewis is the daughter of Shelly Lewis and will be pursuing a nursing degree while continuing an impressive twirling career.
Lewis, who has been twirling since she was one year old, began twirling with the Pantherettes in Nicholas County. By 8th grade, she became the youngest feature twirler at her school. Practicing twirling upwards of four hours a day-seven days a week, Lewis managed to graduate with high honors and a 4.3 GPA this spring from WCHS.
Lewis performed both solo and multiple batons twirling routines in front of judges to secure her place on the line. Out of 13 hopefuls, she was one of 12 selected. Lewis was one of six freshmen to make the line.
Lewis has consistently placed in the top 20 at national baton twirling championships and recently ranked 51st out of 103 in the grand nationals. They won the first annual Natele Mumaw Marching Band Invitational Twirler award last year at the state marching band invitational. Lewis is also the current Teenage Miss Majorette West Virginia.
